Small Size, Big FUn
By Lee Marcussen
*Note this is a Raw and Uncut Edition, full of spoilers and profanity (and mostly unedited for the sake of comedy). You have been warned*
I want to say sorry that I didn’t type this out sooner. I was meaning too but I fucked around and didn’t type it up so I forgot shit. So this in my opinion is a shitty review for a good movie.
Before I get started, I have never read any of the ant man comics. To be honest I didn’t know shit about ant man till I heard about this movie. Another thing there is some spoilers in this so BEWARE.
Ant Man starts out with meeting Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) as he is getting out of prison. He ended up in prison for hacking a company he worked for because they were over charging their customers and he returned the money. Lang is picked up by his good buddy Luis (Michael Pena) who plays the sort of stereotypical Mexican guy who says little funny phrases throughout the movie. Turns out he is actually funny and does provide some pretty good laughs throughout the movie. At this point Scott goes to his ex-wife’s house to see his daughter for her birthday, but his ex-wife is banging a cop and hates Scott. In addition the boyfriend being a cop means he naturally doesn’t like felon Scott either. They both want to keep Scott away because he hasn’t been able to pay child support. So Scott tries to find work but being a felon makes it kind of hard and he decides to follow Luis on doing some small time robberies. The movie than cuts to a big research place that Darren Cross (Cory Stroll) runs. Darren is trying to finish a formula that shrinks shit that Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) was trying to make, but he keeps getting it wrong. Then Luis tells Scott about a place that his cousin cleans which has a big safe that could have money or jewelry or whatever. They plan out the robbery but when Scott gets in there all he finds is the Ant Man suit. Even though he doesn’t know what it is? Later the next day he tries on the suit and ends up shrinking down and falling and trying to figure why and how he shrunk down. He then gets back to his original size and being freaked out returns the suit back to the house which he stole it from, but on the way the cops magically show up and arrest him. While he’s in jail he hears a voice telling him to listen to it in order to get out of jail and be able to save his daughter. Turns out its Dr. Hank Pym is the one who made the suit and is the voice instructing him what to do. Then a group of ants bring in the suit and tell Scott to put it on in order to escape. He gets out and rides one of those flying ants and it takes him to Hanks house which he robbed. There he meets Hank and his daughter Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and he begins training in order to stop Darren from making the formula because he plans on selling it to different military agencies in order for war. There the movie goes into the typical training where there’s like learning how to fight and shit and how the suit works blah blah blah, but the cool part is Scott also trains to use ants to help him out. There is some funny parts here so it’s pretty good. During this time they gather up different things they need in order to break in to the research facility. They need some like radar blocking thing hank built for the Stark Industry. Turns out the build that was for Stark Industries is like some type of Avengers building storage place or something. So Scott has to break in but the place id guarded by the Falcon guy from Captain America so they end up fighting it out but it’s pretty interesting because like Scott shrinks down and Falcon can’t see him and uses ants to help fight falcon and ends up stealing that piece. Then it goes to the 3 Scott, Hank and Hope trying to destroy Darren’s formula. Turns out Darren made a suit like Ant Mans and finished the formula so they shrink down and fight but Darren oh he’s actually Yellow Jacket now. There yellow jacket goes to where Scott`s daughter lives and threats to kill her or whatever so then Yellow Jacket and Ant Man fight it out on a Thomas the train table top set. Which I thought was reallllly cool. Ant Man has these like ninja star things that make things big or small so he like threw one at the Thomas the train engine and it turned huge and smashed through the house. Kind of funny. Long fight short, Ant Man beats Yellow jacket and lives and gets his daughter then is welcomed back by his ex-wife and his dick head cop boyfriend. Also there was the typical after credit cut scene which hits at an Ant Man 2
Overall I liked Ant Man, like I said I knew nothing about this super hero till this movie. I honestly didn’t think it would be that good but Paul Rudd made it pretty funny and I really liked how the used like real ants to help them out. Didn’t think that was going to happen like that. The fighting was good and was a different style because yam know he like shrinks and shit. Go see it its pretty good. It ties into the avengers and the different marvel movies.
