BATTLE ISLANDS REVIEW (Xbox ONe)
By Lee Marcussen
Freemium Fighters
This game dropped in October on the Xbox marketplace as a free arcade style game. This game is pretty much a carbon copy of the popular phone game Boom Beach, which is one of the popular freemium games where if you want to be good you have to buy fucking gold bars or whatever to upgrade shit quicker. The way Battle Island starts out you have One Island where you must go through a really long tutorial that could explain to a 3-year-old how to play the game. You must construct the typical base starting stuff like command posts, barracks, and factory for supplies (the usual flare). You have three different styles of fighting that can be combined when attacking real people in battles or playing the set campaign. You’re able to build air, sea, and ground units for these battles. You also have the ability to make defensive units like turrets, cannons, mines and the typical stuff. You can play with friends in the sense of joining alliances.
Overall there isn’t a whole lot to write about this game. It’s seriously a copy of Boom Beach and Clash of Clans. I`m usually a sucker for these games cause I play them all the time. Battle Island is a bit different in the sense that it’s on a console not on your phone constantly bugging you about upgrading or when you’re being attacked. I like that it's on the console because you can play it before you start up a game and do a quick battle and upgrade buildings than play a real game then come back to it when you winding down. It still has that whole buy gold pieces to upgrade your units faster which is annoying and dumb, but I`m sure there are people out there that are more financially stable to do this. For a free game download, it is not crazy fun and doesn’t require much attention really good for killing time waiting on friends to get on to play a real game.
