On the road to Glory
By Lee Marcussen
Bridge constructor is a puzzle style game requiring you to build a bridge from one point to another under budget but also strong enough to hold up a vehicle up. You have to complete the bridges to move on to harder bridge constructions and to connect all the islands together. Visually the game is very crisp in layout the detail is nice and backgrounds are very vibrant and colorful. Some of bridge sites are in caved areas which have lots of detail. This game is pretty much just like the app version but instead of touching your phone screen to place objects you use the analog sticks on the controller. I was worried on how the controls would work on a console but they did a great job on converting it over. One of the coolest additions that I noticed was how you can toggle up a grid behind your bridge so you can line up the building pieces easier and for a more stable bridge. I like that you can use different building pieces wood, steel, concrete, and steel cable to construct your bridge. All different prices and different lengths. Other really cool thing is you can send different vehicles over the bridge car, box truck, and semi truck. All weighting different really testing the strength of your bridge. There is also a separate game mode built in called "Slope Mania" which has obstacles at different heights challenging the builder to build bridges with slopes ascending and descending.
I don't have a lot bad to say about this game. It is really well put together and I've always been a big fan of this series. Now i'm not sure if it's my TV settings but one thing I did notice was on the top part of my screen the budget price is half cut off making it hard to see how much money I have left, but when I have an app snapped on the side I can see everything. That is the only downside I have with it. One thing I think would be cool is some of the bridges are very difficult to build once you get into the higher levels, if they can somehow incorporate a blue print feature that would cost some of the points you win from each bridge kind of as a help guide to get through. Further more, this is a great game and it's really relaxing and destressing. Something simple you can play while waiting for friends to all get online or if you're getting pissed at COD or Gears you could come to this and take a break and de stress.
I want a give a big shout out to Gregor over at Headup Games for giving us a chance to review this game. When I heard this was coming out I
had big nerd out being an engineering student and having played Bridge Constructor on the app market before. I always enjoy this style of puzzle games.
