10/31/2015 4 Comments Halloween Spook-E-ssentialsHalloween is a helluva fun time. People dress up as their favorite heroes, eat junk food, and scare the crap out of each other. In the spirit of that last bit, Lee and I have put together a list of some of our personal favorite horror games that bring the scares and the fun. Honorable MentionsThe Last Of Us One of the more recent entries on this list, The Last of Us is one of the greatest games of all time. Survival horror meets Naughty Dog's excellent handling of a third person action adventure, making for a great game that hit all sorts of levels of emotions, including fear. Silent Hill Series Silent Hill is home to some of my most terrifying memories in gaming. Chilling to the core, Silent Hill has long been synonymous with the horror genre as a whole. The whole gaming world mourned together when the purposed reboot Silent Hills, which was being produced by Guillermo del Toro and starring The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus, was canned by Konami. R.I.P Lee's PicksOutlast Outlast is honestly the scariest game I've ever played. Just a small bit of background, you are a reporter going into an abandoned insane asylum to investigate why people were disappearing or something. The play style is you are a reporter only armed with a camera that can see in night vision and having no ability to fight back from the different creatures that are inside the asylum. This game is the scariest in my opinion because you can't defend yourself, you can only try to run away! This game will have you on the edge of your seat and cause you to poop your pants.
House of the Dead This game which I started playing on arcade systems in the mall (back when those were things, r.i.p arcades...) The two player rail shooter is a great game and was packed with things jumping out at you and requiring you and a friend to react fast. Great game love it and love the different console adaptations that have followed. Edwin's PicksResident Evil The Resident Evil series has long been a staple in my gaming diet. From numbered entries to the odd spin-off, I have played almost every Resident Evil there is. Though the titles of recent years have sadly lost some of the luster of older entries, nothing can sour my memories of watching my dad play through the original on the Sega Saturn. With puzzles and scares galore, this one will always be one of my favorite horror games. Hell it practically invented the genre. D Though many won't recognize the title (read on it here), this one is unforgettable for me. Another title I grew up watching my dad play, this one was a puzzle centric real time game. A woman named Laura tries to find out why her father recently went on a mass murder spree and is dragged into an alternate reality. Though short in length, the cryptic and haunting game has had a lasting, albeit terrifying effect on me. I will never trust suits of armor on display. Dead Space Dead Space is straight up one of the coolest survival horror games I have ever played. Although the third one was a letdown for me in the series, I love the first two. Nothing can top the original however. Equal parts Alien, The Thing, and Resident Evil, it has some of the most tense moments. Its visceral gore is furthered complemented by a crazy eerie soundtrack that features the scariest cover of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star you will ever here. Need I mention how badass Engineering outfits are in the future? You go OSHA, you go. In MEMORIAMBonus
One of our favorite scary movies is Evil Dead (2013), the reboot of the cult classic. From the excellent use of practical effects, to how well they reconstructed the story to adapt to today's times it is through and through a great movie. Its bloody, gore filled intensity is perfect for Halloween, so we want to give you a digital copy! Left 4 Dead 2. Great co-op. The action overshadowed the spooky factor, and I appreciated that.

I like Resident Evil & Silent Hill. Haven't played the newer games though.
