After some clear re-evaluations about the franchise's direction, Resident Evil 7 was officially announced last night during Sony's E3 press conference. After much criticism on how the series roots had been muddled in recent entries, particularly in Resident Evil 5 and 6, this trailer definitely gives a scary vibe. The game will be releasing on Xbox One, PC, and PS4 with full Playstation VR support as well. But is it a Resident Evil title still? That is my one concern, as the title will be in a first person perspective for the first time ever and no detailed looks at a "zombie" were shown, giving off a more Outlast or haunted house vibe as opposed to drawing clear inspiration from the original trilogy. There is a demo out right now, so hopefully that will shed some light as to wear the game is heading in terms of inspirations. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments.
"Set within a sinister plantation mansion in modern day rural America and taking place after the dramatic events of Resident Evil 6, players experience the terror directly from the first person perspective for the first time in the Resident Evil series. Embodying the iconic gameplay elements of exploration and tense atmosphere that first coined “survival horror” some twenty years ago, Resident Evil 7 biohazard delivers a disturbingly realistic experience that will define the next era in horror entertainment."
