Okay this one is going to be a quick one. It's a simple game, with a simple premise, and one simple selling point. Naked Waifus. Now I've gotta admit a little bit of a bias here. I was assigned this game for one reason and one reason only. It's kind of a running joke amongst the team but also one of those "it's funny because it's true" type things. Ya see...ya boy watches the anime girls. I likes the 2D women. I loves me some Waifus. I appreciate tig ol' anime biddies. The drawn boing boings. The animated badonkadonk. The- Well you get the picture. Anyways, that's why it fell on me to do this review. And I was fine with that. "Bring on the fan service" said I Because that's what I thought I'd be getting. Simple fan service type stuff. Provocative poses in a bikini. Maybe a little cleavage. At most a couple of panty shots later on. I mean, they wouldn't do nudity in a console game, surely? Certainly not one on Nintendo's kid friendly platform right? Well it turns out they they bloody would! Before we get to the details about that though (yeah let's delay that gratification, okay?) We'll get the premise out of the way first. It's a silly motivation but, when a game is about destroying the clothing of hot waifus, you aren't exactly expecting Shakespeare anyways. You see, evil demons have cursed the gorgeous girls of the land. They've cast an evil "quick aging" spell that has infected the clothing of 8 beautiful medieval maidens. Doomed to change from buxom beauties to wrinkled old hags in only a matter of days, how can you save these wonderful Waifus? Why, by destroying every single item of clothing they're wearing of course! You play as a member of the Uma Ninja clan. Expert pilots, it's your duty to destroy the garments of these lovely ladies, before their youthful grace and perkiness are gone for good. Helped by an ancient and powerful witch, you and your well-armed fighter craft are shrunk to microscopic size, enabling you to fight your way through the demonic hordes and destroy the cursed clothing that each girl wears. Not a single piece of fabric can remain. Every fibre must be removed. It's is our duty. It's the right thing to do. But I bet the girls will be grateful too! The action takes the form of a vertical SHMUP and falls firmly into the "easy to pick up but difficult to master" category. Depending on the difficulty it can range from relatively easy to almost bullet hell levels of challenging. You start off by choosing a ship, although only one is available at first, that all have different speeds, weapons, bullet strength, armour etc. You then pick a girl from the two choices available and launch into battle. The background of your screen has a beautiful full body drawing of the anime girl you've chosen to save and they are really well drawn and highly detailed. They also do a good job of having different types of stereotypical Waifus so aficionados will definitely find one they like. But not Ariella though. You can't have her because she's mine. You got it?! Anyways, the background picture is extremely well done and starts off completely dressed in their chosen style of clothes. And then the game begins proper. Giant sprites appear on screen and these too are really stylish, nicely made and animated. There's a huge variety of chunky well designed enemy sprites that will move around and fire bullets towards you. Some enemies fire long bullets, which you can shoot down, and others shoot small round ones which have to be dodged. You can get a huge amount of baddies on screen at once, especially on higher difficulty, and the amount of bullets flying around can get ridiculous at times too. So you need to take them down as quickly as possible. But that's not enough. If you just keep doing that, you won't get anywhere at all. Instead, as each enemy is destroyed, you need to quickly nip in and grab the shining crystal they drop before it falls off the bottom of the screen. Each one you grab will power up and fly towards the item of clothing you'll be destroying for that stage. Collect enough and POW one part of clothing with tear into a million pieces! At first this might be her glove, or her tights, her jacket or her hat. Something small and simple, just enough to tease. You then move onto the next stage and work on the next item of clothing. You slowly shred each item, stage by stage, until you reach stage 7. And it's here you'll get a surprise. A boss fight. Huge and with attack patterns that you must learn quickly, completing these fights signal the girl being completely safe and happy for your help. That isn't the only surprise though. This game features nudity. Destroy the clothes quickly, while taking as little damage as possible, and your chosen Waifu will get happier and happier. At her highest happiness level you'll be rewarded with a fully nude picture that's totally topless. Yip, breasts out, ahegao face, nipples, all that good stuff. If you unlock it anyways. Yip, yip I know I know. You want this explained right now, so here goes. At first, you can play in 2 modes only. Streamer mode, which is totally safe, won't get you banned off Twitch or YouTube and you won't need to explain anything to your significant other. Why you'd buy this game and then play in this mode, I've no idea but it's there if you want it. Secondly is Censored mode. Here you see the girls naked but with themed icons covering the best bits. The Thief girl has little bombs, my girl Ariella has little bats, and so on. However, if you keep playing, you'll unlock Uncensored mode 1 which shows all girls topless and only censors that most R18 of all intimate areas. Surprising in a game on a Nintendo platform, the bodies are extremely well done and detailed, with everything you'd expect to see from topless girls. Finally and I can't confirm this for sure, is that there MIGHT, I repeat MIGHT, be a full Uncensored mode. You see on the "select censorship level" screen there’s one more space for another option. Can it be unlocked? I don't know. I had some troubles completing the highest difficulty, getting killed about halfway through the game. Every time. But I assure you I'll keep trying! If it's possible, I'll unlock it! After saving the first girl, you're giving two new ones to choose from and you then head out to save her too. Between missions though you can visit the shop and upgrade your ship for the next level. You can add more damage, more bullets to your spread, add shields, drones and bombs. All to make the next stage easier, to survive longer and kill quicker. Then it's rinse and repeat till all the girls are saved. And that's about it. I mean there IS a gallery mode, where you gain pictures of each girl in each stage of undress. You need to earn these though by saving each of the girl numerous times. You can unlock a "one handed mode" for...some reason or other. And that's definitely it, there's not really much more content to talk about but luckily it's a $10 game and is really designed for short bursts of play. Basically a reasonably well done SHMUP with chunky enemies and tons of bullets. The fact you need to grab crystals as quickly as possible, while not getting hurt, gives it a slightly different feel to it from other straight SHMUPs. Large boss fights are a highlight, each having unique styles and patterns of attack to learn. Your ship can be upgraded between battles and each unlocked craft differs greatly from the others in its stats. That's not why you'll buy this game though. I know, you know it. If you're looking for a great SHMUP there are better options out there. But those games won’t have nude girls. And those are the real highlight. Each girl has her own unique style, meaning there's sure to be a Waifu for you, and they are very well drawn and posed. Plus they're nude. What's not to like about that? *Note: A copy of the title was provided for the purposes of the review FINAL SCORE: 6/10 |
+ Each ship handles differently + And can be upgraded + Catching crystals is relatively unique + Nice collection of well drawn girls + I like Ariella | - Gets a little repetitive - Not a huge amount of content - Large difficulty spike |
