Tiny Troopers Joint Ops Review
By Lee Marcussen

Small Scale Leap Proves Fun on Current Gen

*DISCLAIMER* I think from this point forward I’m going to tell reviews as if I were to tell a friend about a game in person
. I want to see why it’s good and bad and talk about the features of it plainly so I get my point across. So we’ll try this style out and see how you guys like it. Let me know in the comments what you think!

Seeing the news that Tiny Troopers was coming to consoles was exciting to see. I played the version from the Android app market but I didn’t end up playing it a whole lot (not huge fan of playing games on phones) I really enjoy playing twin-stick style shooters, the last one I remember playing was Halo Spartan Assault, (which was pretty fun) so Tiny Troopers being a twin-stick arcade shooter and making its way to Xbox with some new exclusives is great.
Tiny Troopers features three different game modes; the main campaign, a special-ops campaign and then the all new zombie mode! The campaign mode is split up into 3 operations (Chapters) having 10 missions each operation. The mission structure varies from killing all enemies, to destroying buildings and vehicles, and surviving waves of enemy attacks.  The scoring system keeps track of your coins earned from killing enemies, finding Intel, and finding collectable medals in the game. You then can use the coins to buy upgrades to guns, troops, and clothing styles (which gives you swag and some money bonuses) for your troops. The collectable medals are used to unlock special troops. The special troop types vary with different abilities or functions, with some special troop types being the medic, heavy gunner, gatling gunner and many more. These are very helpful for some missions, the only catch with the special troops is once you unlock them using the medals you then have to purchase the troops with coins and they only last one mission.  The coins are also used during missions to call in for supply drops that will deploy grenades, rocket launchers, air strikes, and medic kits which then are dropped to you. Once you complete missions your soldiers gain more experience and level up, which in turn makes soldiers gain more health and damage.
The zombie mode is a really cool new feature for the consoles. You start out in a small area with one soldier and you survive waves of zombies that come straight out of the ground. As you slaughter the zombies they drop different point value coins or gold bars which keeps track of your high scores. As the waves keep going new areas open up giving you additional special troops that join your group as you fight the waves. As you go along you get supply drops that come in at random times (I hate to compare everything to Call of Duty but it reminds me of the sort of max ammo drops in COD zombies) if one of your soldiers dies in battle after a few rounds they respawn which is nice to have. The zombie’s mode is something I really like they added in. The special ops mode is similar to the regular campaign.

Overall the game is really fun and there is a lot of gameplay from both campaigns and the cool ass zombie mode. I see there being quite a few hours of game play in this split between all the modes, as well as unlocking and buying all of the clothing and collectable stuff. The zombie mode is fun but it would be cool to see some weapon drops that give you upgrades, but overall really cool and glad to see it added. I like the coins idea and being able to upgrade troops and weapons in campaign but it would be nice to have the specialist troopers that would play the whole game not just per round but I guess that’s the point of gaining more points to unlock more. All together Tiny Troopers is a fun, quick arcade game. I’ll say the game play is nice and easy to get ahold of, someone of any age could pick this up and have fun. It would have been cool to have some sort of co-op but that’s really my only complaint on it.
