The World Needs Bad Men
The True Detective season one is about two detectives Marty Hart (Played by Woody Harrelson) and his partner Rusty Cohle (played by Matthew McConaughey). The series starts out with two cops interviewing both Marty and Rusty in present time asking them about a crime they solved back in the mid-1990s. The cool thing about the series is the cut backs to when the two detectives were working together to solve a satanic sacrifice style murder. With the flashbacks it shows them getting a call about a woman who had been murdered and bound to a tree with deer antlers mounted on her head. This is the first case that Marty and Rusty work on together. Early on you see that Marty is the meat and potatoes style detective, someone who gets the evidence straight up and goes with it. While on the other hand, Rusty studies the crimes and analyze every tiny detail around to try and get the feel for the murder. As they work together they see their differences and Rusty isn’t the most liked detective in the office. The show gives you a look into the lives behind the badge and you see that Marty isn’t the most honest family man. With a wife and two young girls at home he’s seeing another woman and sleeps with her regularly, which ends up blowing up in Marty’s face and causing his wife to divorce him later in the series. Not only that but Marty also battles alcoholism. Like Marty, Rusty also battles alcoholism but you find out that Rusty had been a deep undercover cop in Texas who specialized in drug related gang activity. Rusty lives alone in a house that only has a bed in the living room and a table where he analyzes every part of the case every night and battles some demons from the past.
The whole series has present day detectives interviewing both Rusty and Marty trying to figure out a murder that happened that recently happened but with the same style as the one that Marty and Rusty investigated in the past. As the interviews go on, the detectives ask not only about the murder case but the life style of both detectives and what led up to Rusty leaving the force in 2002. During the interviews it shows the insane situations that Rusty and Marty had to go through in order to get their suspect. There ends up being government cover ups along with people who don’t want to talk about the case, making it difficult to get information in the rural swamps of Louisiana. In later episodes, the detectives contact one another to talk about their interviews. Rusty thinks that the serial killer back in the 1990s is still out there. Rusty then convinces Marty to help him go after the guy but they have to do some unethical means of getting the information on the murder whose case has been brushed over by the churches and the sheriff’s office.
(SPOILERS FROM HERE ON)
They find the murderer but he puts up a good fight and takes rusty by surprise and stabs him. By the time Marty gets there Rusty is bleeding out and the suspect hits Marty with a throwing hatchet. (Real call of duty type shit. lol) Rusty shoots him and then all of a sudden the cops show up and it forwards to them at the hospital after the incident. Rusty who has been battling demons the whole time throughout the series talks to Marty about how he was dead and felt the love of his daughter who was killed in a car accident years back. From there the episodes ends.
This isn’t your normal Law and Order style cop drama or creepy murderer, this series is a must see! It has twists and turns that you wouldn’t expect, it also gives a great narrative from the flashbacks of Rusty and Marty to the times of the first murders. It had many action packed scenes and also dramatic confrontations, and it even has some pretty hot sex scenes with a couple pairs of boobies. Overall, this is a great series and had me on the edge of my seat for every episode. This series is a solid 9/10 !!! With a new season that just premiered the past Sunday I’m very excited with how they will carry on the series
